Basics of organic chemistry

1       Discuss the reason for the presence of large number of organic compounds?
Ans; carbon can form a large number of compounds due to peculiar nature of carbon.like
A; moderate electrochemical properties of carbon. C is present in the top middle of the periodic table. Its ionization energy, electron affinity and electro negativity is in          between the groups 1A, IIA, IIIA and VA, VIA and VIIA.
B; maximum covalent bond formation tendency. Due to this intermediate position of C in the periodic table C has the greater tendency to form covalent bonds with each other as well as with other elements.
C; catenation; Due to the greater tendency to form covalent bond carbon can form straight chain , branched chain and closed chain through single covalent bonds , double covalent bonds and triple covalent bonds. This tendency is called catenation.             That is the main reason that why carbon can form such a large number of compounds
D; tetravalency. Carbon is the only element which can bond with four atoms of    different elements like CHClBrI
E; multiple bond formation; Carbon can form double and tripe bonds with each other and with other elements to form large number of compounds.

F; Isomerism; the other important reason is isomerism that a large number of         compounds are formed from the same molecular formula like C2H6O can form C2H5OH an alcohol and CH3OCH3 an ether.
