Basics of organic chemistry

1       Differentiate between partial and total synthesis?

Ans; organic compounds obtained from living or non living sources in laboratory are called synthetic organic compounds or synthetic compounds.
Organic compounds can be synthesized either through partial synthesis or through total synthesis
1; partial synthesis method; when a desired compound is obtained from an intermediate product of reaction, called partial synthesis. e.g. when carboxylic acid is obtained by the oxidation of  aldehyde skipping the oxidation of alkane and alcohol.
2; Total synthesis; when a desired product is prepared by converting the starting material through many steps, called total synthesis.for example carboxylic acid can be obtained by the oxidation of alkane through many steps, as below

C2H6 +1/2O2 → C2H5OH +O2 → CH3CHO +1/2O2 → CH3COOH
